THE CAST:
A Trombonist (T) and A Contractor (C)
THE LOCATION:
New York City, probably near the music store strip on 48th
THE SCENARIO:
Trombonist and Contractor meet on the street after not seeing each other for a number of years:
TROMBONIST: Bob, is that you? Good to see you, I haven't seen you in 20 years.
CONTRACTOR: My goodness Joe, it has been a long time. As a matter of fact, the last time I spoke to you was when I called you for a club date 20 years ago, and you stood me up! You didn't show up for the gig! What happened?
T: Well, the afternoon of the gig, I got called by Basie's road manager to join the band, and I had to leave right away. Didn't you hear about that?
C: No, I didn't hear about that.
T: And then, after I was on the band for a while, I started writing for the band, and Basie did a whole album of my charts. Didn't you hear about that?
C: No, I didn't hear about that.
T: Then Frank Sinatra heard the album, liked my tunes and hired me as his musical director. One of our records won a Grammy. Didn't you hear about that?
C: No, I didn't hear about that.
T: Then I got into writing for TV and movies, and won an Oscar for one of my soundtracks. Didn't you hear about that?
C: No, I didn't hear about that. By the way, what are you doing back in New York?
T: Well, I'm here for my daughter's wedding. As a matter of fact, I took my trombone and sat in with the wedding band. Man, my chops are kind of down. I didn't play very well. I sounded pretty bad, actually.
C: Yeah, I heard about that....
